    Hi Dave,

The original bowl gasket from Bing is cork. When you order new ones here in the US you get a fiber one. I like these better and they can be re-used 1-2 times if you don't twist them up. Of course if you put the bowl back on it either leaks or it doesn't. I always have spare gaskets.

I think the sinking float issue and the SB made to many paranoid. It isn't a huge problem and isn't hard to recognize.

    Roger,
The bowl gaskets are $16USD each. That's $32USD possible for each 2 months or 25 hours inspection time. My engine is still under warranty. Will Rotax provide me these under warranty even if MY floats check out OK? Any history on Rotax doing this?

Also will removing the carbs upset the sync any?

    Hi Dave,

I don't know what Rotax will do about the gaskets?
If you don't disengage the cable from the throttle then it shouldn't get out of sync. You can remove the throttle arm.

I don't fully remove the carbs. I only pop them out of the rubber carb flange and lift them 2" to clear the drip tray and then pop the bowl off. The carb cables never get touched. I know the bowl gaskets aren't cheap. The original cork gasket can get messed up fairly easy if you aren't careful.

I know this isn't what the SB says, but doing this every 25 hrs. without any symptoms seems like over kill.
That's just my personal opinion and may not be someone else's.

OK folks I just checked my floats by weighing them. The left side pair weighed 5.90 grams. The inner at 3.03, the outer at 2.87.
The right hand pair weighed 6.76 grams. The inner at 3.63, the outer at 3.13.
Does this mean I need to replace the right side inner that weighs 3.63 grams with a new one as it is over half the 7 gram weight Rotax specifies for a PAIR?

The picture below clearly shows the inner float lower than the outer one.

    Thank You

The bulletin is quite specific - floats are to be replaced IN PAIRS. The instruction is not 'replace any float more than 3.5 grams', but that the combined weight of both floats determines the total displacement (and overall fuel level).

I suspect the rationale for changing 'the pair' is that since they are sold in pairs, they are likely to be from the same manufacturing batch, and thus the lighter one is doomed to fail in the near future (only a matter of time...)
