I'm a new owner of a Montaer MC01 Light Sport with a turbocharged Rotax 915is.  I used to have a Cessna 182 and in the winter I kept a trickle charger/desulfater on it.  Really made a difference on battery life and winter starting.  Was wondering if I can do that with my 915is which has a 12-18v sealed lead acid battery in it.  Any advice/recommendations?

    Hi Gene,

In the absence of a more technical / knowledgeable responder:

Almost any multi stage charger should be able to charge your battery (unless its something exotic).

I suggest you contact the battery maker/supplier for their recommendation.

I would not leave a battery on permeant "trickle" charge as this may hide a weak/damaged battery that may only be good for the first start of the day and leave you stranded at a distant airfield.

I use this charger optimate charger. (an older version but is almost the same).

i know it because it is the charger recommanded by Honda on their motorcycles.

it has a very neat connector with fuse (mandatory on metal airplane)  and it has a lot of function (desulforating , test , etc) . I appreciate it for  dual use (trikle for battery maintenance and 6A charging that can be very useful when you have a low battery and want to fly!)

there are a lot of other charger with , more or less the same characteristics but in our airfield we use a lot of these and also their electronic rotax carb syncronizer.

But even if it advertized that can be used 24/24h we DO NOT leave this charger unsupervised

These are popular in Australia https://www.ctek.com/au/

My last Rotax powered aircraft used a motorcycle battery, so I purchased a CTEK to suit - did the job well.
