Oil Tank plug crush washer

The crush washer has a seam on one side does it matter which side is against the oil tank when it is tightened ?

Terry,

The crush washer should be smooth on both sides if it is a new washer. If it is an old washer I would check the mating surfaces of the bolt and the tank to see if there is a defect there which would cause a seam in the washer. In either case, unless it is a serious seam, it will probably seal OK when tightened.

The seem goes towards the plug bolt head.

I ordered the washers from Lockwood a very reputable company and have torqued both sides of new washers to 225 in lbs but still getting a small oil leak from the oil tank. Where do you get your washers ? I'm still learning thanks for replying.

Since my first oil change I never noticed that the washer was a special crush washer. I've been using solid copper washers with each oil change (ignorance is bliss). Any problem with using the solid washers?
