“Modern cars” are already suffering from too much automation in that they are being scrapped because of unmaintable electronic systems. these cars will never “rust out” for want of a better word they “short out”. ONE BROKEN CONNECTION “ out of thousands that cannot be found is enough produce an intermittent fault that destroys the value of the vehicle.

Sounds to me that Rotax is on that same slippery slope: “can’t find the electric problem - $7000++ for a new ECU that Might fix it, so scrap the engine” What point is a 2000hr TBO with a 100hr electrical system? Reminds me of 1960’s British cars with Lucas electrical systems - total unreliability.

Can't the files be exported and then emailed to someone with the ability to interpret them?

Yes this is what I have been doing and the only way to do it now.

Great in theory but you must get in line in back of all the other priorities the person is involved with. Sometimes you are ignored totally. No response or help. Other times they are out of town, on vacation, at a trade show, in training the list goes on. Have heard them all. Bottom line, sounds great but not a reliable and superior customer service.

As a starting point, why not simply give the software to the rotax service/maintenance professionals who bought the dongle so if YOU need the service you can get it better and faster? Imagine if you were stuck somewhere waiting for days with good flying weather to get a call back.

So who is qualified to interpret these codes, and how did they get qualified? I am interested because I would like my next airplane to have the 915 but not if it's impossible to maintain.

We called Lockwood Tech Support after my last BUDS download (see my post titled "Lane B flashing") and they were spot on with their diagnosis. Excellent customer service.

Ditto that. I have had great results with both Lockwood Aviation and California Power when they are available.

Are there any other dongle experts any body knows who are available to analyze/troubleshoot?
