I would assume the 915 and 916 engines would have the same problem of no written documentation/support for downloaded data. Again, so amazing when such detail is provided for everything else.

    Hi Paul

I know you have worked with Lockwood Aviation for many years.  Dean offers a 912 injected specialty training class.  Motive Aero has the same program.  They can both give you the BUDS training and then the additional diagnostic training course.  This is the best way to get into the reading of the data. I believe that APS will also offer such training when they get their new classroom completed this fall in Burlington Wisconsin.

    Cheers

RW, there was a mention of this training option on this forum several months ago, at which time I searched the class offerings for all of the U.S. distributors.  I was unable to find any class offered that sounded like it would lead to the B.U.D.S. data access we all want.  Is there a specific class title we should be looking for, or can you provide a link to the webpage for that class?  Thanks.

    Hi Eric

check the listings on Rotaxflyingclub.com webpages. Examples shown below.

You need to have a current iRMT Service level at minimum, to understand the engine functions.  There are 2 classes for injected.  The Installation covers all the concepts of how the parts work together, much more than just installation.  This is required to take the 2nd day diagnostic training for the log viewer.  A copy of the log viewer is given upon completing the training.  Rotax does not allow the release of the log viewer without the training.

     Cheers

So i guess the log viewer is the best ROTAX has to explain the downloaded dongle data and this trouble shooting is off limits to those who may need it.

Yes after about 8000 hours operating and maintaining the 912iS I have relied on Dean/Lockwood and Brett/APS to decode the Dongle downloads and that is great when you can get a hold of them. GREAT SUPER service.

However, turns out weekends, holidays, vacations, other customers, limited time available, training, etc... it is hard to figure out the problems when you have customers waiting to fly the aircraft and you have days wasted/loss of income. This results in customers new to ROTAX, bad mouth the ROTAX engines since maintenance facilities can not figure out the dongle downloads and trouble shoot the electric problems.

ROTAX was done a great job with everything else in the manuals. But there is room for improvement for ROTAX to get up to speed with the downloads. ROTAX needs to put out a manual, just like the pilots, line maintenance, heavy maintenance, parts catalog, etc....... This is holding back basic service/maintenance for all fuel injected engines leaving plenty of ROTAX customers stranded. This is not good for any of us.

The industry is sending a message, hopefully ROTAX figures this out to help its customers with this issue for the success of us all.
