ALL-
Purchased a new portable hardness tester, a CIMETRIX CMX1000 that my ISC recommended as a suitable substitute that was significantly cheaper than the price of the Mitch MH600 Portable Leeb Hardness Tester recommended by Rotax.
I am trying to properly configure my CMX 1000. I might be missing something, but it would seem the SB would contain material and other parameters required to properly configure a hardness tester for the gearbox and crankcase.
Any suggestions where I can get all the information and data from Rotax I'll need to configure my tester? Many thanks in advance!

Hi Patrick
if you are not comfortable doing the configuration for the tester then perhaps you should get a specialist. Rotax gives the values but can't possibly tell you how to configure your tooling.
The only important things to know are these:
-Set your tooling for testing values in HB (hardness brinell)
-Set your tool for checking cast aluminum.
-Follow the calibration test by the tool manufacturer.
You can only test on the unpainted surfaces called out in the SB, never on the painted surface.
If you iSC is using such a tool then it would be best to ask them in my opinion.
Cheers

I sincerely appreciate your reply! My tester uses abbreviations for different materials that are not intuitive, which is tripping me up. I am very comfortable with setting HB and calibrating, just trying to match the manufacture's abbreviations with the gearbox and crankcase material. Thanks!

Any idea of the failure rate?
by Rotax-Owner » 4 weeks ago
Hi David,
This is why Rotax requires test result numbers to be reported back to assess the failure rate accurately.
